How to brew the new SOL Blend with Hario V60 pourover

We're thrilled to introduce our new SOL Blend, a coffee designed to shine as a pour-over. Whether you're a seasoned coffee aficionado or new to lighter roasts, you'll love the vibrant flavors this blend offers. After extensive testing, we've perfected the brewing process to ensure you get the best results with SOL. While any pour-over brewer will work, we highly recommend the Hario V60 for its exceptional value and quality. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you brew the perfect cup with our SOL Blend using the V60.

Equipment You'll Need:

Hario V60 Dripper: We like the plastic Hario 02 dripper

Filter Papers: Use cone-shaped filters like those from Hario.

Digital Scale: Essential for precise measurements.

Timer: Use a scale with built-in timer or use your phone or a kitchen timer.

Gooseneck Kettle: the long neck allows for precise pouring control.

Grinder: Freshly ground beans are key to a great cup.

Brewing Instructions:

1. Bring your water to a boil: If possible, use filtered water.

2. Preheat Your Equipment: Start by placing the paper filter in the V60 and rinsing it with hot water. This removes any papery taste and preheats the dripper. Also, preheat your coffee mug or carafe with hot water.

 3. Measure and Grind Your Coffee: SOL really shines (pardon the pun) at a 1:16.5 ratio, so weigh out 30 grams of our SOL Blend coffee beans. Grind them to a medium consistency, similar to table salt. We'll be using a total of 495g of water to achieve our brewing ratio.

 4. Prepare for Blooming: Place the V60 with the rinsed filter on your scale and add the ground coffee. Create a small well in the center of the coffee bed. Zero the scale and start your timer.

 5. Bloom: Pour 60 grams of water (twice the coffee weight) over the grounds, making sure all the coffee is wet. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds to allow the coffee to bloom and release gases.

 6. Main Pour: After the bloom, slowly pour water in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Pour until you've added a total of 300 grams of water (60% of the final water amount). This should take about 30 seconds.

 7. Second Pour: Continue pouring the remaining water (135 grams) slowly and evenly, maintaining the water level. Aim to finish pouring by 2:15 minutes to achieve optimal extraction for SOL.

 8. Agitate: Gently stir the coffee bed with a spoon twice in each direction. This helps ensure even extraction by preventing any grounds from sticking to the sides.

 9. Final Swirl: Once most of the water has dripped through, give the V60 a gentle swirl to flatten the coffee bed.

 10. Drawdown: Let the coffee finish dripping through, which should take a total of 3:30 minutes from the start. Remove the dripper and enjoy your perfectly brewed SOL Blend pour-over.

Tips for the Best Brew:

Preheat Thoroughly: Make sure your V60 and mug/carafe are preheated to maintain the brewing temperature.

Steady Pour: A controlled pour helps avoid channeling, which can lead to uneven extraction.

Experiment and Adjust: Our brewing parameters for SOL Blend are based on our own testing at the roastery. Feel free to tweak the ratio, grind size and pour rates based on your taste preferences and extraction results.

By following these steps, you'll be able to extract the best flavors from our SOL Blend, resulting in a bright, flavorful cup of coffee. Enjoy your brew!
