FAQ
IS YOUR COFFEE FAIR TRADE AND/OR ORGANIC?
Sometimes. But we don’t seek these certifications because they don’t always guarantee superior and fair growing practices at the level we need. We focus primarily on the quality and taste of the coffees we purchase, and we do this while promoting transparency and sustainability in the supply chain. We aim to develop strong and fair relationships with coffee producers and hyper-specialized importers in order to raise awareness among people and communities while improving the practices and products of the coffee industry.
HOW FRESH WILL MY COFFEE BE WHEN I RECEIVE IT?
We freshly roast our coffee every week and work with our partners to ensure that our coffee is always served and sold at the peak of its freshness. Best if enjoyed between 5 days and 3 weeks from roasting, we write the date of roasting on every bag of Kaito coffee so you can be assured of its quality and freshness.
HOW LONG WILL MY COFFEE STAY FRESH?
We generally recommend that our coffee be enjoyed between 5 days and 3 weeks from the roasting date (this is indicated on each bag); this is where your coffee is at the peak of its freshness. Beyond 3 weeks, your coffee will gradually begin to lose its aromatics, and so we encourage you to purchase only the coffee you will need during its peak freshness period. We also recommend grinding as needed and storing coffee beans in a sealed container in a cool, dry place.
CAN YOU GRIND MY COFFEE?
Yes. If you don’t have a grinder, you can simply indicate in the notes section of your order that you want your coffee ground, and what type of coffee maker you are using so that we can determine the appropriate grind size. Although we offer this service, we caution against grinding your coffee ahead of time, as this causes the aromas and flavors to lose very quickly compared to a whole bean of coffee. Coffee is always best served when ground immediately before brewing, and we strongly encourage you to equip yourself with a quality coffee grinder to optimize your coffee experience at home.
HOW DO I MAKE MY COFFEE FOR BEST RESULTS?
Coffee can be brewed in different ways with varying characteristics depending on the technique, equipment and recipe used. What’s most important is enjoying the cup of coffee that will be brewed, and we strongly encourage exploring various brewing methods to determine your preference. For more information on brewing coffee, check out our brewing method guides.
WHY DON'T YOU OFFER LARGER SIZE BAGS?
Freshness is a key element of our quality promise, and we want to make sure you always drink our coffee at its best. As such, we sell this one exclusively in 12oz bags to encourage you to buy only the coffee you’ll need during its peak freshness period (between 5 days and 3 weeks from roasting).
